The Levelator is a free application that will improve the quality and adjusts the audio levels within a recorded .wav file

Record on any MP3 player with a record option & functional menu screen - My recommendation is Sandisk for ease of use & price
Apple iPod will need an external microphone to be added - an expensive option (see video clip below)
Record direct onto your PC via an external microphone or headset with microphone - very affordable (approx $50-70)
VOIP - Download the free Skype internet phone software to record telephone conversations
Sony and other digital note takers are good but beware, they need their own propietry software to download.
Use the record function on your mobile phone or digital camera
