Horizon Project
This project is a collaboration of students from around the globe to compete to analyse and discuss future trends in technology. See the 2008 Horizon Report. Sister project to the Flat Classrooms Project.

My Hero Project Global Exchange
This Project is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to enlighten and inspire people of all ages with an ever-growing internet archive of hero stories from around the world. The site hosts thousands of stories of remarkable individuals written by children and adults that serve to remind us that we all have the potential to overcome great obstacles and achieve our dreams by following in the footsteps of our heroes. Thinkquest
Lead by Bernie Trilling, the Oracle Education Foundation (OEF) provides ThinkQuest as a free service to K-12 schools globally. It's a protected, online learning platform that enables teachers to integrate learning projects into their classroom curriculum and students to develop critical 21st century skills. Students enter the annual Thinkquest competition and access the Thinkquest library for inspiration. Brilliant resource with a long history and over 7000 student created resources - see 2008 winners.

EPals
ePals is a Global Community of collaborative learners, teachers, and academic experts in 200 countries and territories. It's been around for some time and is evolving with Web 2.0 functionality to include blogs and other interactive options. Particularly popular with language students but suitable for all.

Global Gateway
Extensive portal of information regarding global projects from short 10 minute examples and Flat Stanley through to a whole array of project opportunities. UK based.

UNICEF- Voices of Youth
Via the discussion boards called the 'Meeting Place' young people to talk to one another, over the Internet, in three different languages (English, French and Spanish) about child rights and development related issues. Also included are quizzes, games and photo journals.

Land Yachts
A simple project and Australian from Oz-teachernet, where students collaboratively build small wheeled vehicles from recycled materials. These are powered by an electric fan and are measured by how far they travel and the time it takes. The students - from all over the world -use the safe online spaces to record their own design processes and to support the work of others through blog comments.

CultureQuest
CultureQuest involves students and teachers engaged in inquiry-based classroom projects that explore other peoples and cultures. Projects are based on students’ questions and interests and involve the focused, intensive study of one or more aspects of the art, music, literature, religion, values, daily life customs and traditions of other cultures. Global Challenge Award
Aimed at students 14-17 years this project is an online international competition that encourages learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). There are 6 main activities that make up the challenge. Register anytime.

One of the Ning communities, GEC was developed by Lucy Grey for teachers and students interested in global education where they are encouraged to contribute by adding media, conversation, and collaborative project ideas.

Community Walk
A website that provides a powerful yet simple and easy to use interface for creating informational, interactive, and engaging maps. A mashup site that uses the resources of Google maps to create a huge variey of possibilities.

Ning
An online platform for users to create their own social websites and social networks. The unique feature of Ning is that anyone can create their own custom social network for a particular topic or need, catering to specific audiences. Professional alternative to My Space and Facebook.

Diigo
A social bookmarking website which allows signed users to bookmark and tag web-pages. More exclusively, it allows users to highlight any part of a webpage and attach sticky notes to specific highlights or to a whole page. Integrates Delicious.com bookmarks.

Wikispaces
Very flexible wiki workspace. Easily embeds various other media. Very editable and user friendly. Especially good in school.

pbWiki
Another wiki option favoured for its simple lines. Specific education accounts for school use.

Education Voicethread
Ed.voicethread enables teachers to set up class accounts. Upload pictures and capture student voices by audio, text, phone and video input. Regular Voicethread also available. Multiple uses including book reports, revision, story telling, analysis.....

Animoto
A favourite. Upload pictures to create movies. So easy to use. Add music, create and send on to share.

Flickr
The ultimate in photo-sharing sites. Set up a Yahoo account then upload and tag your pictures, make slideshows etc. Keep private or share. To create other products see 60+ ways to enhance Flickr pics.

Skype
The most popular voice and video connection on the Web. Easy to use. Communicate over the Internet with other Skype users for free. Pay small fee for Skype to landline, SMS and other services. Very reliable.

uStream
Live video. In just minutes, you can broadcast and chat online with a global audience. Completely free, all it takes is a camera and Internet connection. Stream live or catch it later.

Chatzy
Simple to use. Free. No popup ads. All web-based with no software intallation. Virtual classroom options. Works on any P, any language and through corporate firewalls.

Talkshoe
TalkShoe is a service that enables anyone to easily create, join, or listen to live interactive discussions, conversations, podcasts
and audioblogs.

Mogulus
Powerful live broadcast platform on the internet. Producers can use the Mogulus browser-based Studio application to create live, scheduled and on-demand internet television to broadcast anywhere on the web through a single player widget.

SightSpeed
Receiving video from the video messenger is also free, as is unlimited VoIP calling. You also get your own SightSpeed page, which lets you host video calls in your browser window. Multiparty calls are possible but you must subscribe to the pay-only SightSpeed Pro.

Extensive variety of options - bit disorganised but interesting outcome due to variety. Can't export as .jpg, must embed. See sample.

Shareable web-based documents. Writ eindividually or collaborate with others.

Skrbl
Simple and easy online multi user whiteboard, start skrbl, give out your URL & start working together. Sketch, text, share files, upload pictures all in one common shared space.

FlashMeeting
FlashMeeting is an easy to use online meeting application, it allows a dispersed group of people to meet from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

Thinkature

Social bookmarking site. Share bookmarks with other users and take advantage of their tags to extend your own collection.

Jing
The concept of Jing is the always-ready program that instantly captures and shares images and video…from your computer to anywhere.

Poll Everywhere
Live audience polling. People vote by sending text messages to options displayed on-screen. The poll that is embedded within the presentation or web page will update in real time

Google Forms
Use this application to build surveys that can be shared via the web. Part of Google Docs.

Survey Monkey
