The web has just begun to have an impact on our lives. As fascinated as we are with it today, we’re still seeing it in its early forms… My belief is that not only will the web be as fundamental to society as electrification but that it will be subject to many of the same diffusion and absorption dynamics as that earlier medium.

Open Education Resources (OER)

are teaching, learning, and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use or re-purposing by others. Open educational resources include full courses, course materials, modules, textbooks, streaming videos, tests, software, and any other tools, materials, or techniques used to support access to knowledge.[6]

Listed below are resources suitable for K-12 but the list is growing

OEDb - Open Education Database
Get free online courses from the world's leading universities. This collection includes over 4300 free courses in the liberal arts and sciences. Download these audio & video courses straight to your computer or mp3 player.

WikiEducator
Is part of an initiative aiming to develop royalty free textbooks for primary and secondary schools; simplify licensing of resources for authors and educators; package and index educational materials so they are easier to find and use; nurture online communities for teachers and authors; and grow open education as a field and a movement.

OER Commons
K12 Teaching and learning materials that you may freely use and reuse, without charge. Resources are generally covered by the licencing provisions of Creative Commons.  These materials are contributed by educators and are being used worldwide but particularing in emerging economies where finances are restricted.  Includes courses, lesson plans, interactives - the full range of teaching resources. 

Connexions
One of the largest collections of open source learning resources for sharing, creating and modifying with Creative Commons licensing. Content on Connexions is organized in small modules that are easily connected into larger collections — for example, a textbook or course.  Good site search facility produces a browsing option of topic resources.

OER Africa
Creative Commons and Open Education resources available for use by all.  Launched by South African Institute of Distance Education (SAIDE) who's mission is to increase equitable and meaningful access to knowledge, skills and learning across the African continent, through the adoption of open learning principles and distance education strategies.

CK-12 Foundation
A non-profit organization providing access to educational materials for K-12 students worldwide with a focus on free high-quality, US learning standards-aligned, open content in the Science, Technology,Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) subjects.  The site includes a range of tools to assist in editing selected resources into digital publications.

Open Courseware Consortium
A collaboration of higher education institutions and associated organizations from around the world creating a broad and deep body of open educational content using a shared model.

MIT Open Courseware
This is a free publication of MIT course materials that reflects almost all the 2000 undergraduate and graduate subjects taught at MIT.  No certificate is presented on completion of the course, however, it is freely available education for the world's scholars.

U-Now - University of Nottingham
Open courseware available from the University of Nottingham.  The resources come from a variety of academic staff from across the campuses and vary in what they aim to do and how they do it.
